Conservatory of the Arts

The Conservatory of the Arts is another example of our commitment at VCS to connect students’ God-given talents with extraordinary opportunities for growth and service. We have expanded our course offerings by entering into strategic partnerships with internationally recognized art institutions, such as the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Steinway Corporation. College and admissions committees look favorably on undergraduate applications that show  involvement in a specialized program, and the Conservatory program graduation standards in certain disciplines are above and beyond the requirements for traditional graduation. Conservatory graduates are formally recognized for their achievements by a notation on their transcripts for colleges, an honor cord to be worn at graduation, and a framed Conservatory diploma. With unmatched resources and talented faculty, the Conservatory fosters an environment where students master their talents in preparation for admission to internationally renowned collegiate institutions.

While the Conservatory was created to provide individualized, advanced training for fine arts students, we are pleased to extend excellent training in state-of-the-art facilities to all VCHS students. Any student may discover his/her God-given talents through full participation in Conservatory classes while fulfilling the fine arts requirement for graduation.

VP/Director of the Conservatory

Imagine a community characterized by continual creativity and a performance environment that encourages exploration of endless possibilities. Couple that with exceptional facilities and “top-flight” instructors who evoke excitement and a passion for the arts. Welcome to Valley Christian Schools’ Conservatory of the Arts, an exciting K-12 program that is committed to discovering and cultivating the extraordinary God-given talents of young artists!

I invite you to explore the incredible breadth of options offered for all ages through the Conservatory. From Kidservatory, to Junior Conservatory and, finally, the high school Conservatory of the Arts, our engaging faculty nurture artistic talent throughout the traditional school day and during after-school enrichment offerings and private lessons.

Our commitment to excellence has paid off over the years as Conservatory programs and students have been honored with numerous awards and recognitions and have earned admission into prestigious institutions of higher learning. During their time at VCS Conservatory, students have also been blessed with extraordinary opportunities, including participating in the 2013 Tournament of Roses as well as performing and competing in the 2014 Jimmy Awards for Theatre on Broadway in NYC. Many Conservatory groups have also traveled to Europe, China, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Thailand, serving as school ambassadors through their performances and outreach activities.

While external recognition is evidence of our students’ success, the true spirit of the Conservatory is found in the Psalms, as the writer celebrates the creative works our Master Designer: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalms 139:14). At the Conservatory we believe it is the Creator who continues to innovate in us and through us to unlock the potential in every student at VCS.

Come join us as we celebrate and explore the infinite beauty of God’s creative world together!

The Kidservatory program, the elementary branch of the Conservatory of the Arts, introduces elementary students to the exciting world of creative art. Throughout the school day, experienced and engaging Conservatory faculty lead pull-out classes in music, art, theatre, and dance.

Additionally, VCES students have the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the arts after school through the Kidservatory program. Experienced high school Conservatory faculty members provide exciting offerings such as Musical Theatre, Fun with Drums, Adventures in Art, Heavenly Harps, and Dance Express. The Conservatory also offers private lessons in a variety of instruments and voice, for further individualized instruction.

Junior Conservatory

The Junior Conservatory allows VCJH students to develop their God-given talents within a full range of visual and performing arts courses in music, art, theatre, and dance. Budding young artists hone their skills in an environment that delivers unmatched quality, instruction, and breadth of offerings. The Junior Conservatory effectively prepares students for matriculation to the high school Conservatory and provides unique performance opportunities along the way in outstanding venues such as the California Theatre in downtown San Jose and Disney’s California Adventure.

Conservatory of the Arts

The Conservatory of the Arts offers high school students the exciting opportunity to further refine their God-given artistic talents with an Honors Program offered for six disciplines:  Music Arts, Visual Arts, Dance Arts, Theatre Arts,  or Media Arts. The Honors Program creates a pathway for recognizing the top high achieving students while broadening the outreach to the greater VCS community. Involvement in a specialized Honors Program helps students stand out to college and admissions committees and prepares them to pursue their creative endeavors after high school. We have expanded our course offerings by entering into strategic partnerships with internationally-recognized art institutions such as the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Steinway Corporation. Our commitment to providing students with extraordinary opportunities was recently rewarded when the VCHS Marching Band and Color Guard were selected to march in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade; two of our theatre students were selected to perform in a 2014 summer showcase on Broadway; our 2017 and 2018 Performing Indoor Ensemble earning the Gold Medal at the Winter Guard International Championships for two consecutive years;  and our Visual Arts students’ annual participation in “The Memory Project,” creating portraits from photographs and sending them to disadvantaged students in Columbia and Madagascar.

"Getting involved in the Conservatory, specifically in the theater, music, and film departments, was one of my most advantageous choices at Valley Christian. As I went through high school, "The Conservatory" became more than a name, it became a community where together my fellow students and I could thrive.Through the Conservatory I was able to develop my talents, skills, and abilities far beyond what I ever thought was possible in high school. Every single staff member, whether a teacher or administrator, was there for us capable and ready to endow each one of their students with their knowledge, care, and expertise.”  (VCS Student)

"I came to VCHS as a freshman who barely knew anything about piano and very much lacking in self-confidence. But throughout my 4 years of studies at VCS, the Conservatory program, especially the music faculty, have nurtured and strengthened me musically as well as spiritually in Christ. This honors program gave me many performing opportunities and now music has become a part of my life as well as my college career path (at USC Thornton School of Music). Five years ago, I would be able to say that I can live without music. But as of today, I absolutely cannot!"(VCS Student)

The Conservatory has prepared me for my college classes by requiring an art portfolio. I had good training on how to develop my ideas of subject matter for a concentration of photos. Thanks to Valleteachers, my work displays who God is and His wonderful creations on earth.” (VCS Student)

“As drum major and field major of the VCHS band, I most enjoyed participating in the Tournament of Roses Parade which was viewed all over the world. We were chosen from all these different bands that applied, and we collaborated with the Chinese Band from School 57 in Beijing!" (VC student)
